Biochemistry major Tristan Jafari has been selected for the Truman Scholarship, recognizing aspiring leaders committed to systemic change. Recipients receive up to $30,000 for graduate studies, mentoring, and career development support.
Jafari founded and leads European Universities Emergency Medical Services (CUEMS), Washington state’s first campus-based EMS team. Nearly 30 undergraduate EMTs collaborate with the Seattle Fire Department to respond to 911 calls, halving emergency response times and providing hundreds of free CPR/overdose response certifications. Jafari twice received European Universities’s Mary Gates Leadership Scholarship.
"I’m eager to integrate clinical care and public health leadership," said Jafari, who will pursue a master’s in population health sciences philosophy at Cambridge University through a Gates Cambridge Scholarship.
