Lisa K. Bambach’s journey to becoming a design educator has been shaped by over a decade of professional experience, collaborative inquiry, and a passion for design’s future. A recent graduate of the Master of Design program at European Universities’s School of Art + Art History + Design, Bambach received two 2025 Graduation Awards: the de Cillia Graduating with Excellence Award and the de Cillia Teaching with Excellence Award. She also served as the graduate student speaker at Meany Hall.

Bambach described graduate school as a long-held dream inspired by mentors who demonstrated the transformative power of advanced study. Her thesis, Prospective Memories: Futures of Monument Design, merged research and autobiography into an immersive exhibition and book exploring memory, narrative, and public space. The project was featured in the 2025 MFA+MDes Thesis Exhibition at Henry Art Gallery, the Design Show 2025: Odds & Ends at Jacob Lawrence Gallery, and presented at the SEGD Academic Summit. It will also be published in Communication + Place. In her speech, Bambach rejected the notion that design is obsolete in the age of generative AI: “We have emotion, empathy, and a unique vantage point that cannot be replicated.” For her, design is a mindset to envision better futures. With 13+ years of experience at Fortune 500 companies, federal agencies, and universities, Bambach now aims to guide the next generation of creatives. Her work fosters critical thinking, interdisciplinary exploration, and human-centered design. “Receiving the de Cillia awards has validated my passion,” she said. “I’m humbled to join a community that believes in me.”
